is the author of The Medal. In this novel suren is the narrator of the story he is a school teacher in a village. He narrates an incident which took place 4 years before. One day as usual he was teaching the class four students suddenly there was some disturbance in the class. He noticed Kamakhya was trying to snatch something from Sudhir's hands. He was surprised to see that it was a big old medal something had been carved intricately on both sides of the medal. On one side there was a picture of Queen Victoria in her youth, on the other side were the words 'Sergeant S.B. Parkins,  6th Dragon Guards 1854'.  Sudhir revealed that an English man had given the medal to his Grandfather.

Suren goes to his village for the weekend. He takes the medal with him, he sets out to meet his friend Vrindavan , who's house is across the river. While standing on the bridge he notices that the river is in spate ( Overflow ). He suddenly gets an irresistible urge to jump into the water.  He knows well that he will drown if he jumps somehow he controls himself. At Vrindavan's  house Suren feels a strange restlessness.  He goes to the terrace and gets an overpowering urge to jump down. Luckily vrindavan  comes at the moment suren feels a strange fear as he enters his house in the village at night. Suddenly he wakes up feeling that someone is watching him from outside. He sees a pair of fiery eyes staring at him suren closes his eyes in fear.                  After returning from his village suren decides to give The Medal back to Sudhir.  sudhir's grandfather tells him a peculiar story he says that there is a curse on the medal. His brother-in-law had once taken it and had fallen down from a terrace. Others had taken it but had returned it at once because of strange happenings.

Conclusion:

The old man says that only members of sudhir's family can withstand the power of the medal. He expresses relief that suren is safe.
